Ways to make a person feel better after a family member has been murdered?

My best friend just found out her brother in law was murdered last nite, I will be seeing her and her husband tonite and I want to make them feel better in any way I can. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Just be there for them. That's probably all you can really do.

  • unfortunately i dont think there's any "making them feel better" scenario. you can just express your deepest heartfelt sympathies and let them know that you are there for them no matter what. do they have kids? maybe offer to babysit so they can get out alone for a few.

  • How sad. The only thing I can say is just be there and listen. Unless you've been through it, don't pretend to understand. My dh's good friend was killed last month and the only thing his family wanted was just to know that people cared and to let them know that if they needed to talk we were here.

  • Tell them you'll be there, and really be there. If she needs help with something, you're her best friend, you'll know. She might not call you up and ask, just go and do it :)
