Talking of Adoptee Rights...have you heard the great news?

Thanks to Access RI, Rhode Island just became the 7th state to open records. The law takes place in a years time and any adoptee over 25 can get a copy of their OBC.

7 down 43 to go.

  • I think that's terrific - I'm so happy I learned before our adoptions finalized to obtain at LEAST a copy of the OBC prior to the records being sealed so my children will have this record to touch when they're ready to have it. I have them in the books with their papers - along with their amended birth certificates and their adoption decrees. Sadly, I don't think all APs know that if they DON'T get a copy, they WON'T get a copy in most cases.

That is not good in all cases because, what if the female that carried child tried to abort it herself and it did not work!!!!
