Sources for non-plastic toys?

Anyone have any good ideas for old-fashioned wooden or metal toys?

We have been whittling down the toys in favor of the less is more approach, but I'd like to find some creative multi-use toys (other than the obvious blocks...and of course, the Thomas trains) , rather than the overly commercial and under-quality stuff they have in most stores.

  • Melissa and Doug makes really nice wooden toys with nontoxic paints. FYI though, they are pricey.

  • LOTS of Waldorfy style toys available.

I have used Magic Cabin, Nova Naturals, etc.

    You might google 'Waldorf toys'
    and Simplicity Parenting.
    Best wishes!
