Why does "Happy Holidays" offend you?

I have seen many moms here who are personally offended when someone tells them Happy Holidays and I don't understand. Why would you be offended by ANY well wishing?

  • It doesn't offend me. I'd rather people say Happy Holidays than just assume that I celebrate the same holidays they do.

  • "Happy Holidays" does not offend me. However, calling it a "Holiday Tree" does. It is NOT a holiday tree, but a Christmas tree. It would be like referring to a menorah as a holiday candle holder, don't you think?

No, I don't think so since the tree has no connection what-so-ever with Christ. The tree is a pagan symbol...not a Christian one.

  • Who the heck cares if someone is offended by Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas. This is what we say, if you don't like it, close your ears. It's the way it is. Like it or not. HAPPY HOLIDAY! MERRY CHRISTMAS. I don't care what anyone likes or doesn't. I will do what I want to.

  • My assumption is that they feel insulted because of their religion.

  • I am such a bad Catholic, I have become so jaded by Christmas and the 'stuff' that I could give a freaking hoot if someone wished me a shitty christmas.

I say Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, just depends on what pops into my little brain. I am grumpy, I just bought presents.

Still, people have always associated the evergreen with decorations as a Christmas tree - not a holiday tree. What other holiday decorates a tree? Christian or pagan, it's still a symbol of Christmas - not Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan or others.
