Does anyone have an add/adhd child with asd, that REFUSES to go back in the doctors office????...Mine will not because he is terrified of needles and wont let the doctors anywhere near him....this goes for ANY doctor, dentist too.... HELP!!!!!

My son is 14 and is terrified of doctors because he hates shots, therefore i cant get him to go to the doctor without pulling and tugging him in the office. He got a shot in an outpatient hospital because he was getting dental work done and they had to put him out with Ketamine...when he saw the needle coming he moved and ended up slicing his arm with it. So, now hes afraid that when we go to the doctors office( for any reason), hes getting a shot. He dosent even want the doctor near him, and when he sees him coming he also pulls his arms up in his sleeves to avoid the shot....BTW, did i mention he is nonverbal???....HELP!!!!!!!

  • Talk to his ped about something to relax him before he goes.. Maybe something along the lines of Valium can help if taken about an hour before any doctors apt.. Sounds as though his anxiety and fear is through the roof :( I hope you find something to help.

  • That is NOT from ADHD. That is just a fear of needles and doctors. Try counseling to help him overcome his fears. If he is that scared to go then he needs professional help to overcome his fear. When a fear affects someone's life like this one is affecting your sons, help is needed. DON'T call the counselor a doctor either, just a counselor.
