How long do you bleed after giving birth?

I've heard so many stories...some say weeks after, some say it's heavy a few days after, then it turns to a clear/pinkish color. Any/all advice is helpful.

  • I bleed for a few days. I learned that if you hold your urine that you will bleed more heavily.

  • Anywhere from 4-6 weeks like a pp said. It depends on how the birth was and everything. With my son it was almost 6 weeks, with my daughter it was only 4 but it does slow down after the first week or so.

  • If you have sisters that have had kids, I would ask them how it was for them. Or ask your mother how it was for her. They are closely biologically to you and would be a good indicator. 2 weeks is the average.
