  • Theres a few things that might make it all come together for you and him. First remember that its not necessary to keep a bowl of water on the floor all during the day. Offer water with his meals, after a walk, etc. but then put the water away. Dogs will drink exactly how much they need when its offered. In the wild, dogs did not have water available to them, yet they survive perfectly. They simply drink when its available. :) Then within a few min. take him out to a specific spot and use the same word everytime that he piddles. We use "piddle" or sometimes "potty", but use only one word when they are young. Say it over and over when he is going.

  • continued....Take him on a leash so that he understands that you are controlling him, and take him to the same spot. He'll sniff out where he wants to go. Pat him on the head after (not a treat, b/c going to potty is natural, not a special trick) and say "good dog". Offer his food in the morning and the evening at this point. Then put the food away. Remember that dogs have short colons and small bladders. When they've been run or rough housed, they need to go potty immediately. When they've eaten, they need to move their bowels within about 5 - 10 min. You can help him "go" by taking him for a short walk after he eats and say, "poo" as he goes.

  • continued....He'll get the connection pretty quickly. At nite, or when you are away from the house, we have found that kennel training is best so that pup doesn't get into trouble, nor does he get into a habit of marking. He WILL go back over and over to the same spot no matter how much you clean. I'll be glad to help more if you need. :)

  • Remember the puppy is still a baby.At 9 weeks he doesn't have alot of control over his bladder and bowels. The PP is right to take the pup out to the same place on a leash and praise ,praise, praise when he goes. The pup will need to be taken out regularly on a schedule. They do need water available at all times, even dogs in the wild have access to water ie:lakes, rivers etc. Also puppys this young need to be fed 4 times a day, morning, noon, supper and a bedtime snack.A Boston Terrier is a toy dog and needs to keep it's blood sugar level up.Our dogs all free feed from the time they are puppys. We raise and show Yorkies and Shih Tzu.This works for us very well.
