Making dip at home ?

Okay, my problem is I like french onion dip, dip, but I don't like the chopped onions in the dip.. (the ones from the store)..
sooo.. what are some ways to make regular sour cream taste similar to a french onion dip in flavor, minus the chunky peices?

OR.. what are some alternate dips that might taste similar that you can buy?

  • You can use any onion soup mix but run it through a sifter to keep the dried onion pieces out so you just get the flavor from the powder.

  • You could use chives chopped instead of onion.

  • kathy.. is the lipton soup mix chunky or a powder?? sorry, i'm not much of a cook so have NO idea, lol.

sarah: chives would stil leave it chunky which is what I DON'T want.

shivasgirl: couldn't you just use onion powder then? Or would that not be the same? (sorry again, i'm not much of a cook, so have no idea, lol)

  • Get a hand-held or immersion blender, and puree the store-bought stuff or whatever you make. Get the full flavor but no chunks.

  • onion powder could get too bitter, and it is really good with the fresh onion and juice, makes it a little thinner than plain sour cream
