I have had Multiple Sclerosis for twenty years and have been completely disabled since 1999. I also just went through my third spinal surgery last month. My Neurologist gave me a prescription for a wheelchair - however I can't seem to get it covered and paid for. I have Medicare and MaineCare! I live in an apartment and do not have an outside ramp - so nobody will help me get a wheelchair. I can get around a little with 2 steel crutches - but feel that it would be greatly beneficial to have a wheelchair for inside my home and to take with me if I have to go somewhere that I would have to walk too much! I'm starting to feel like a prisoner in my home because of my lack of mobility and am very frustrated! Can anyone tell me of a way to obtain a wheelchair (either covered by my insurances or donated or affordable)? Any websites that might help me?

Here are some resources for Maine- http://awalifts.com/me_resources.html. Not sure if you have tried these places or not.

I'm also sure Maine has a department that deals with rights, etc for disabled people... but I can't think of it right now... I am sure they can help. Let me do some digging!!
