Smelly vents

We just moved into a house. It has been sitting empty for a few months. Whenever the air kicks on, I can smell a bad smell coming from the vents, my husband says its just from where it has not been used for a while. Is there anything you ladies know of that can stop this smell? Thanks.

  • Try putting dryer sheets in the vents.

  • change the filter! or stick dryer sheets in the vents so they blow the clean dryer sheet smell to you instead of the old dust smell. worse comes to worse you may want to get you ducts cleaned

  • Go to the automotive section of walmart and get the clip on air fresheners for car vents. They work wonders and won't block the air flow.

  • clean the air filters...have your ducts cleaned out...we did that at our other house and it made a huge difference. makes a diff in your power bill too. There could be mold smell if there's mold in the house, which you also don't want circulating through the air. i would have your ducts cleaned. you don't want to cover up a smell that could be harmful to your health either.

  • Your duct work may need cleaning.

  • I would look into getting the filters checked. You might be smelling the normal smells from he last tenant? I would also check the vents to make sure nothing crawled in there and died.

  • I would get it cleaned and/or get a new filter.

  • Sounds like a cleaning and new filters are in order. After that is done some dryer sheets for a nice smell works nicely:)

  • Change or clean the filters, make sure there isn't a small dead animal in there like a mouse, then you can buy these volcanic rock air freshening bags from Improvements, that sit in the vents. The volcanic rock bags are non-toxic and odor things ever.

  • Change the filters or put some Odorz Out in it to soak up the odor.
