If you drive a Toyota Camry 2004 and newer, what MPG are YOU really getting??

I know the guys on the lots, tell me I can get as much as 35MPG on these cars, and average is like 28. I have read numerous reports (edmunds, car&driver, cars.com, ect) that they get on average like 17MPG and tops was like 25MPG.
So I want to hear from you mommy's the REAL deal!
Also, If you have a car that gets excellent gas milage, DO TELL. I need a car that is big and gets good gas milage!! PLEASE HELP!

  • I dont own one. But I can tell you that its a load of crap. ANY vehicle can get 35 MPG if driven the right way. My Suv is 20 city and 24 hwy. Well I always get 22 city and around 26 hwy. But it depends how you drive it and at what speeds. It doesnt just magically always get 35 MPG.

  • I have a corolla and I get about 34 miles per gallon. I drive a lot of back roads and don't have to stop and start a lot, that helps. It also helps that I don't stomp on the gas peddle.

  • It definately depends on how you drive. There's a huge difference between dh and I. He has a truck and when I drive it, I spend 1/2 as much on gas as he does... not sure the mpg, just how much money I have to put in! He accelerates really hard, slams on the brakes, speeds, etc. I drive a whole lot easier and save money on gas!

  • I have an 09 Toyota Corolla and can regularly get over 40 mpg. When I first bought it I was averaging 37-38 mpg. As gas prices went up, I changed my driving habits and increased my mileage to 42-43 mpg. I never realized how much driving habits could change my mileage or I would have done it sooner.

Frankly, driving conservatively saves money in more ways than one. My DH just got a speeding ticket; $162 basically flushed down the drain. I'm hoping it doesn't impact our auto insurance.

  • I ll never get 30 mpg. I don't care if I drive it standing on my head. My best mileage is 12.6 on a good day.
