Is it normal for young children to poop less as they get older?

DS used to have one poopy diaper a day, now he has one every three days and they are very solid when they happen. He'll be a year old at the end of the month and he hasn't had any diet changes.

So is this normal or should we just start giving him a little apple juice get things moving easier?

  • One per day - unless breastfed - is the minimum. Be wary of apple juice, some people find the pectin in it to cause constipation.

  • Apple juice can cramp his stomach. Once every three days isn't good. Feed him more food with fiber and make sure he isn't drinking a lot of sugary drinks or junk food. Bananas and cheese can clog him up. If you can get him to drink water that would be good. My grandson likes those little bottles of water. He thinks they are just for him! See if this site helps.
