  • What are HOAs?

Answer by AF4life at 12:20 PM on Jul. 6, 2011

  • I have lived in a condo on a golf course for 11.5 years now. The HOA is OK they have some rules that we think are crazy. It is nice that they take care of everything outside, gardening, roof, paining and insurance so we think it all balances out. That is if you can live by the rules.

  • If I wanted someone to have that much control over how I lived, I would move to China.

  • I would never live somewhere with a HOA. No one gets to tell me what to do with MY property that I bought with MY money.

  • In Las Vegas, almost every community is in an HOA. Some of them are great, others are not. Ours isn't bad. We pay $41 a month. They use that money to landscape the whole community, so when you drive through our streets, they are lined with pretty flowers and trees. They have several parks in the community with play equipment and soccer fields for the kids. They pay for a street cleaner to come through and clean the streets every Tuesday. They also have security patrols that I see every now and again. It's nice. Around here, you can really tell the HOA communities from the few that don't have them.
