  • They say 4-6 months for rice (or when they can eat it from a spoon) Then, about 6 months for the strained veggies and fruits.

  • When my 7 year old was a baby the advice was to start the Gerber 1st foods (or equivalent) at 4-6 months old. When my 4 year old was a baby the advice was NO foods until at least 6 months old.

However, with my doctor's permission I started my 4 year old on solids at 4 months. She was able to sit up, and be stable. She could look around, and be stable. She was also interested in what we were eating.

Neither of my children would touch the rice cereal, or anything with it mixed in, with a 10-foot pole. We started with the Gerber 1st foods peas and green beans.

  • I started giving solids at 4 months. I started with cereal and made my own baby food during the (stage 1 phase). He had sweet potatoes, squash, applesauce or whatever fruit/veggie I could puree. He is on stage 3 now at 9 months-jar food.

  • We started our first around 5 1/2 months; that's when she was ready. Cereal was not her friend, so we went more with the veggies, then fruit, some jarred and some just well cooked food we were having for supper. With our second, she is six months and just started showing signs of readiness. We chose to skip the baby cereals in light of how they affected her big sister. We give her well cooked, mashed food like sweet potatoes, peas, and she just tried squash last night. She actually gums her food, so we don't worry too much about any small lumps.
