  • maracas.. bend and staple one end closed fill with raw rice then staple the other end. Reinforce both ends wil some making tape. then you can decorate them. For papertowel rolls and wrapping paper tubes, you can do something similar..you can make american indian rain makers. same thing as before..but because they are longer the rice will have a longer distance to travel and it will sound like a rain maker rather then a maraca. you can do a fun reasearch project with the kids by researching the cultures (spanish for maracas, native american indian for the rain makers) and painting them to look authentic. you can add popsicle sticks to the maracas to give them a handle and feathers and string to the rain makers. You can even give the rain makers a bow and arrow like strap so your kids can carry them over thier shoulders. I will be fun to make and be educational too

  • you can also make totem poles by stacking them together and cutting out carboard pieces to glue to the sides to simmulate wings and decorate them. or for papertowel/wrapping paper tubes you can make a sling sack to carry arrows (you can make the arrows out of twigs and a bow out of twigs and string.you can decorate both with feathers and even glitter). just staple the one end like you did for the rain maker and leave the other side open so you can put the arrows in.then attach a string so the can carry it in their back. Also, for both toilet/paper towel rolls even better if you use both, you can glue them together to make a boat (use the taller rolls for the mast and even a paper towel for the sail) or build a city scape buy gluing the rolls upright to a sturdy carboard base and decorating them to look like buildings. There are endless creative possibilities that you can do that will be really fun and educational with the kids
