Have you ever checked to see if you were dilated? Any tips?

I'm 37 weeks and thinking of checking myself..

  • I couldn't reach, so I had my LP do it for us at home. It seems that checking on my side seemed to be most comfortable and easy.

  • I've thought of doing this myself too but not sure how or if its a good idea. I dont want to end up doing any damage

  • I thought about it and I do not see anything wrong with it. Many health care professionals say you are less likely to injure yourself or the baby by checking yourself than by having a doctor or midwife do it because you can FEEL what you are doing.

There really is no point to checking for dilation though. It will not tell you how close you are to labor and will introduce bacteria.

  • So I just tried and I'm really not sure if I'm dilated or not. It didn't hurt at all but everything is so lumpy and bumpy in there I do't know what to look for Lol
