Why do people brag about how much they drink?

I have an old high-school class mate on Fb and her status was
"2 cases down and I'm sober, there is something majorly wrong with this picture..."

Its like really? yeah that something to be proud of. I myself am not much of a drinker myself, maybe 2-3 drinks a week. maybe im missing out on the cool factor of drinking like a fish then braggin about it

  • they brag about drinking 'ability' because their IQ is so low, hard to brag about anything else?

  • i have had friends like that. they would think they were fine but they really weren't. i would never get behind the wheel with her. people will always want to brag about something.

  • so why not brag about something more important like how great the kid(s) are or how wonderful the husband/boyfriend/so is. I think bragging about partying, drinking, drugging, how much money, is just ignorant. jmo

  • I have heard a lot of people brag about drinking, but that post didn't sound like ACTUAL bragging to me. I mean, I had a few really big personal tragedies that led to me drinking very heavily for about 2 years. Blackouts almost every night. I was sad about it, but the pain was so intense that I would just self-mutilate if I didn't drink and numb out a little.

If I posted something like that back then, it would probably have been my own sadness and shock at my behavior, combined with a feeling of helplessness about it.

Needless to say that was before I had my son, and now I am a happy, sober wife and mother.

  • I fully agree with 'fiatpax', above. I cannot for the life of me think of any other reason to brag about drinking like that.
