Are our credits combined now?

We recently got a gas (credit) card in my husband's name so we can build up his score. It's currently at 640. We hope by paying that and other bills in his name on time, it will result in a credit score high enough to be considered for buying a house in 2 years. I wasn't thinking at the time but I added myself as a authorized user. Does that mean everything about that card would go on my credit as well? I was hoping to keep our credits separate. We don't even have a joint bank account for this reason. My credit is in the toilet and I don't want it to affect his good credit.

  • I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that:
    (1) what happens on this card, good or bad, will affect your credit now
    (2) your credit should not affect your husband, beyond this card

  • And continue working on your credit - get your free credit reports, write letters to your vendors to remove negative marks (if you can). GL!
