When do fetus's grow start to grow hair in the womb?

I am 31 weeks and had a nultrasound Friday and she thought she saw just a little. Just wondering if she might get more.

  • Rachel is right, it's around 20 weeks that they start growing hair. Your baby is fully formed right now, and has hair and fingernails and would even cry if they were born right now (which is a response that doesn't occur until at least 28 weeks gestation). All that's left to do is finish maturing the lungs and eyes and put on some weight. She may come out covered in lanugo (fine, downy hair that grows all over their body, usually just present on the upper body at birth), or she may come out with hair halfway down her back. Most babies have just a little bit of lanugo and a little bit of scalp hair when they're born :)
