I just got my contraceptive (IUD) with no hormon and was wondering if it takes effect immediatley?

Do I need to use a different barrier at all? I read and heard that it takes on effect immediatley? Is that true? thanks!

  • if your talking about that mirana thingy. then yes it does. if its down in your uterus then yes. cause its blocking your overies and some of the middle so spirm cant get up and eggs cant come down.

  • Yes, both Mirena and Paragard are effective as soon as it's been put in. The reverse is the same; when it's been taken out, you need to use another method or if you are trying to conceive, then you can start right away. Congrats, you're protected!! =)
