Here is a fun game for your little ones who are learning words,ABC's,numbers,shapes,etc...

i started this when my son was 1 1/2 years old....i know he was young but hey you can never start something too early!!
get a pack of index cards and different colored markers...

start with colors: do the colors of the rainbow, but make sure you only put one color per card! i wrote the word out and used a crayon to scribble that color on it...
next do basic shapes: write the word out and then draw the shape...
now try numbers: again write the word out and then write the number its self...
now you are ready to do something else!!!
i would write out the word door, window, car, ball, etc and then draw the picture to go with the word...make it easy and do catagories like things at the beach, things in the bathroom, things at the park, you get the idea....

then make some for the body, like nose,ears,eyes,mouth,fingers....

you can also add a couple card with you childs first, middle and last name that way they learn that as well!! its fun and it gets their little brains son is now 5 and he is getting ready to start kindergarten....he already knows everything they will be learning this year,so it will all be a refresher for him! try it out and dont give everything else in life,it takes time and practice!

  • its really fun and the pictures get them interested....i started this because i was a young mom with an almost 2 year old and i knew 2 year olds are very outgoing...also i didnt have alot of money to go out and buy educational toys,or games for i created my own games and activities....

its easy to do,plus you can always add more things to the deck of index cards as they get son loves it.....

  • Love it when parents are proactive like you!!! Another great idea... Place something you want your child to learn on the back of your headrest in your car. So, when you're traveling to and from the grocery store, church, or wherever they're always looking at it. You could put a shape and play "I spy a square," as you go down the road, or your phone number, or whatever else you're studying. Also... Check out This is an awesome FREE website that helps children learn letters and basic reading skills. Once they get started, most four and five year old can use it independently. :)

  • thank you ash...ive saved so much just by making games and activities by hand....its amazing how much more kids learn just from making up games and son is using words like splendid idea,interesting,emotional,absolutely......

he is very smart and its because of everything i taught him just by using index cards and other things....also it sometimes keeps us moms from hearing "i want a new toy".....
