Disturbed by grandpa's actions or lack of........

We were at a family gathering today and my inlaws were there. My MIL is very affectionate toward my 5 year old daughter but my FIL isn't. He isn't a real touchy feely kind of person but we are talking grandkids here. He shows my 3 year old niece alot more attention than my daughter. But when we got ready to leave my DD gave my MIL a hug and kiss and told her bye. My FIL was sitting right there although my DD didn't see him. And he never told her bye or anything. This bothers me, what grandparent doesn't acknowledge their grandkids or tell them bye when they are walking right by them????? I guess I don't understand because my dad and step dad are not like this with her. Should I have made her go tell him bye?

  • Don't let it get to you. Some old men simply don't like kids, grandkids or not. When my son was born I took him to my grandfather so he could meet his first great-grandson and he simply said "that's nice" and wanted nothing else to do with him lol.

  • My MIL does this constantly. :( She's done it at their home, my home, even public places. I don't know what the deal is.

  • Yes, you should remind your child to say good bye. This will also serve to remind the grandfather that it is appropriate to acknowledge them when they are leaving.
