  • The only products that are truly safe and effective are the 'expensive' ones like advantage. Some vets will see single does ($8-10 or so) which cost you more in the long run but are less expensive at one time. You can use borax on the carpeted areas but honestly until you are preventing them form being on the pets you are not going to be 100% effective keeping them form infesting your home.

  • But mommie is right. Also Eucalyptus is a natural deterrent also

  • Sorry, but in order to get rid of the fleas - you need Advantage, Comfortis, or other expensive treatment.
Flea Collars - good for your vacuum bag and nothing else.
Borax good for helping vacuum. But there are no cheap treatments.

  • When we got them in our house all the animals got baths lather thick with soap and leave it on for about 10 min. I also used borax on the furniture and carpet. Once they were washed we shaved them all 2 cats and 2 dogs. It is a chore and you have to keep doing it every day, vacuum everyday sometimes more than once.

  • If you want the fleas gone you are going to have to get the "expensive stuff". They are going to need to be on it for several months to get the whole flea cycle. Stop wasting your money on flea collars and please don't buy something like Hartz drops.

  • We used sargeants from dollar general. It had 3 per pk for 4.50. It worked for about a wk and half. We use revolution for our kitties and comfortis for our dogs. I hope that helps.

  • Oh have a real problem that's not cheap to fix really. The problem is...the fleas lay eggs, even if you kill the fleas they have a few days the eggs they have layed already will hatch out and Bam! All new batch of fleas to lay more eggs. I stick with Frontline Plus for my dogs...Bathing cats is NOT an easy task (only when kittens, IMO). Bathe, bathe, bathe every day with a good flea shampoo...(but_mommy) is right...until you get rid of fleas on pets...the fleas in home will keep repeating also. Hartz drops do NOT work! Waste of money. Borax is cheap and in the laundry section of grocery store but that's for carpet infestations and must be repeated. Having pets today is costly to remedy problems like this and to keep them from coming back again & again. Sorry.
