Summer reading program

Why are there so many craft projects at the library's summer reading program? I think it should be about reading not making a stick horse.

  • Good point but what library do you go to?
Here in Tulsa it is about the library books that you do read.
then you get a prize for it.
All of my younger kids are in it and we love it.

  • Our summer reading programs always had a big variety of activites, I think it helps draw in kids with difference interests and shows them that the library really is a neat place.

  • Most of the crafts go along with a story that they have read. Doing a craft that is based off the book gets their hands busy and helps the child relate that to the story. This helps with reading comprehension and is an excellent way for kinetic learners to learn.

  • it's to help get their creatavity flowing. the kids made puppets one year and then checked out three books about puppets and two about making other crafts. the library don't care what kind of books they have for their reading books, craft books count too.
