How much formula should a newborn have?

My baby is 12 days old. In the hospital she had 50 ml. Now that she is home I give her 2'5 ounces? She seems to want more and more. How many ounces should she have?

  • I don't use formula, so I'm not sure, but I think it goes by daily oz not at a feeding. I think it might be 24oz a day or 32... not sure. If she's eating 2.5oz at meals, she should be going a few hours between them. My Dd at 6weeks was eating 3.5oz of expressed milk per feeding. Don't know how much before then because I was nursing and hadn't gone back to work yet.

  • Most Newborns Eat 1-4 ounces every 1-3 hours , So , If your LO seems like she is more hungry try giving Her 4 oz , and if she stil seems hungry after that , feed her more often, Hope i helped (:

  • My son had about 2-3 oz every couple of hours, but I would say to increase an oz for the feeding. I know that Formula doesn't fill up as good as breast milk so I would increase formula

  • Don't give any more formula at a feeding than you would breastmilk. If baby takes 2.5 oz breastmilk per feeding, don't give more than 2.5 oz formula per feeding. If you want to up a feeding, give 3 oz breastmilk at a time - increase breastmilk before increasing formula.

  • My kids are teenagers now but from what I could remember depending on the baby, 2oz to 4oz at that young age, that's per feeding. And maybe more depending on if the baby naps a little longer they might get hungrier. but usually 3 oz to 4 oz.

  • Went to the Dr. today , she weighs 10 pounds at 1 month. I am obviously over feeding her. She has 4 oz. every 3 hours. She wails if its any less.
