  • The Ten Commandments would be a good start. Buy a children's bible if you don't have one. Your child can read it everyday.

  • My three year old can understand the golden rule. We talk about "would you like someone to do this to you?" as measure if she should do an action to others.

There is a family devotional book geared towards children's understanding called, Teaching Hearts, Training Minds which expounds on the Westminster Catechism.

  • Jesus taught men to love God, your neighbors and yourself. He taught service and being a good, kind person.

Those were the basics of his teachings. You can teach an 8 year old those things in words they'll get and you can teach them even better by example. Volunteer at a shelter or some other place that could use help helping others. Help old ladies cross the street, etc.

Dont complicate it by overthinking things. He's EIGHT...he doesnt need every itty bitty thing to know what Jesus tried to teach the world.

  • Read to him some of the passages in the Bible about Jesus. Have him help you collect food to donante to a food pantry. Or let him help select a food kitchen to donate money to.

  • I would read the book of John and explain that all Jesus wants is for us to worship and love Him. Keep it simple. He will get the message. The ten commandments is nice but Jesus said this Worship the Lord your God , Love Him and Love your neighbor as yourself. It keeps it simple. The 10 commandments is overkill for a child. You want to make sure he understands that no matter what Jesus loves him very much and that all he needs to do is just to listen to that voice that tells him to do the right things. :-)
