S/O What is the average price to adopt a child?

I had to have a complete hysterectomy at 25 after my 2 girls were born and adoption has been in the back of my mind. I just read a question about adoption being expensive. So what is an average price? What do the agencies expect of the adopting parents? Do you have to be mega rich?

  • Depends on what route you choose... Domestic adoption ranges between $10,000-$30,000, depending on if you open to different races, what your open to as far as what expectant Mom has done, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes...

Foster care is free for the most part, unless you adopt from out of state foster care, then you have travel expenses and such...

  • I think it depends on if it's international or domestic, from foster home or private. Contact an adoption attorney.

  • It depends on if you go through a private adoption agency or if you become a foster mom and choose to adopt that way.

  • My friend adopted two kids from Siberia and each was around 30,000 (and that includes the flying to Russia a few times)

  • In IL at least, if you are a trained/legal foster parent for the state, adoption is free.....at least that's what my friend who is a foster parent told me.

  • There is no average price. It varies on who's involved. If it's just the judge and consenting parents, it can be minimal, $2500 or so. If lawyers are needed rates varie. Agencies have fees as well.
