To answer your question no he is not taking Social Security check away, but their Social Security checks will be smaller. "Lawmakers are considering changes to how Social Security is adjusted for inflation."

  • No.. It isn't... It isn't part of the U.S. constitution. No where does the Constitution state the role of the Federal government is to take care of people with entitlements ~ grly

I agree with you as far as welfare, SSDI, etc. But, SS is something that whether or not the COTUS authorizes it was made a fact, and everyone that worked was forced to pay into it. He also mentioned veterans retirement checks. If nothing else goes out, imo those two are mandatory. If he's going to take away entitlements, it needs to be the ones that are optional ~ the ones people choose to apply for. Our veterans did more to earn their pension than any one of those congresscritters, and our elderly had no choice about the money taken from their checks. People on FS, WIC, HUD, and all the rest of the actual welfare is what should be held up ~ and those things were NOT mentioned (probably because he KNEW there would be riots). The man is scum imo.

  • Obama put the threat out there...whether it bears fruit or not remains to be seen. Personally, I do not think there is a worry for August and September.

  • Op, taking away? No... Using Social Security as Political Collateral in his speeches? Perhaps.. Obama said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks if the debt ceiling isn't made... But, anyone who has followed Obama's words vs Actions knows~ his rhetoric is full of half truths, if any truth at all...

  • And it IS part of a governments job to take care of(give back to) thier people when they are in need.

No.. It isn't... It isn't part of the U.S. constitution. No where does the Constitution state the role of the Federal government is to take care of people with entitlements.... The U.S. Constitution is the law of the land, afterall...  Research the history of social entitlements in America.. With every expansion in program, bureaucrats have put us MORE in debt...  It is suppose to be a temporary help up.. Not a lifeline of sole income.

  • I haven't judged you.. Only weighed in with an opinion of your comment. If you choose NOT to work and your fiance CANNOT work and the well runs dry, it is NOT the responsibility of the Federal Government to provide your primary income. I don't care about your personal story. What I care about is a nation going bankrupt because too many people feel they are entitled.... Entitlements and additional entitlement programs continue to grow at a larger rate than federal revenue. We, as a nation, are broke. Too many people would rather the government PROVIDE them with welfare... When it is the federal government's responsibility to PROMOTE... NOT Provide...

  • And who's to say someone's theory is flawed, that's just a rude statement to act as if yours aren't and your so much smarter then the other because you can call someone else's opinion or statement "flawed"...Saying ones opinion or statement is "flawed" is just an opinion itself, so if you want to look smarter as if your trying to look smart then don't ever use that word against another.

Take the time to educate yourself on Social Security and you would know your "theory" is flawed.

  • The President is not taking away Social Security checks. He has said that he cannot guarantee the checks will go out without a deal. Politifact rates his statement as Half True.

  • This "Is Obama taking away SS.....?" Is such a blatantly obvious slam at the President once again

It's not like Obama isn't contributing the fodder for slamming his Presidency. Get over it liberal loon, Barack Hussein Obama is on his way out and he will be labeled the biggest Democratic Failure in this country. YOU are the only one still defending his policies.

  • I don't think it is Obama, collectively this has been building up over several acministrations. Sure Obama has been a failure, but we can't blame everything on him. This didn't happen in just his short term.
