Medical reasons child won't poop in toilet?

is there any medical reasons a child won't poop in the toilet?my 5 year old boy won't go poop in the toilet ,the doctors put him on miralax and he went good for a whole month but as soon as i weaned him off of the miralax he went right back to pooping in his pants .he only poops about every 4 to 5 days except when he is on the miralax then he goes everyday.the doctor says he is holding it in but why does he go to the toilet when on the medicine and not when he not on it.i really feel like this is more than him just not wanting to go to the toilet.PLEASE HELP!!! any advice is greatly appreciated.thanks.

  • If he is only going every four or five days I might keep him on the Miralax. Also maybe get him a stool to put his feet on while he poops to make it easier. It probably hurts to poop and waits till he just can't wait anymore.

  • Go to the library and get every book and movie for children on potty training. Maybe he is afraid of the water in the toilet. Keep encouraging him that everything is going to be o.k.

Maybe you need to feed him more fiber and give him more water to drink. I put a big pitcher on the table with ice of water and my kids love it. You can put a scoop of bran meal or crushed flax seed or flax seed oil into anything that you bake. Try staying away from processed foods like hot dogs.. Mix some bran cereal into his regular cereal. apples and peanut butter. Celery sticks and peanut butter, carrots and ranch. Make sure he is getting at least and hour a day of exercise. All these things will help him go more. every 4-5 days is not enough..he needs to go everyday.
