How long to cook chicken in the crockpot?

I am planning to throw some chicken breast in the crockpot with some salsa then shred it up to go in tacos. I've done it before, but I can't remember how long to cook it for and on high or low. I have to leave for two hours to take my dd to swim lessons and would like it to cook while I'm gone.. so what do you think? Thanks!

  • I cook mine on low for 4-5 hours. Chicken breast can dry out very easily if cooked too long. I don't even cook roasts on high 5-6 hours.

  • is it boneless and skinless kind? if it is it cooks really fast on high it would only take about 2 hours on high, 4 hours on low

  • Usually takes 4-6 hours for me, depending on which crock pot I'm using (bigger so they're single layer or smaller & stacked) and how many I'm cooking.

  • 4 - 6 hrs on high. I'd check in 4 and see how tender the chicken is. I've made that before, yum!
