  • keep him in his crib with the lights off. do not go in when he beckons for you. it may take up to a half hour. he needs to know its time to sleep. if you do not give him something to entertain with, then he will go back to bed.

  • This may not help keep him from waking up, but maybe it will help him go back to sleep sooner. When he wakes at a time he should be sleeping, be sure to keep everything as close to sleeping conditions as possible. Such as, lights as dim as possible, speak to him as little as you can, and very quietly, like there was someone else in the room that you don't want to wake. Is he hungry at that time? If so, try to have a bottle ready to just warm quickly ( if on a bottle) so he doesn't have very much time to get fully awake while waiting. Does he go to sleep on his own, or does he have to be rocked/cuddled to sleep? He may need to begin learning ways to settle himself back to sleep. Most children wake a time or two at night and go back to sleep without you knowing.
I hope these suggestions help. I am a mom to 3, and 'Grammy' to 1.
