How long do you keep milk?

Since the date on the jug is not the expiration date, but the SELL BY date - how long do you keep milk after it's sell by date?

  • I pour some in a glass to smell/taste, because the plastic containers start to smell as much as 3-4 days before the milk starts to turn, When I get milk in glass jugs it doesn't do that.

  • Its rare for milk to be around til the date on the jug, but when it is... a smell/taste test before pouring it out. It varies everytime. Some milk goes bad before the date, too.

  • I can't drink it after midnight of the "sell by date." I have had nasty milk the day after--no joke. But, around here we rarely get to that date so unless i buy 1/2% for just me, we drink about 1 gallon every 2 days.

  • If the milk sticks around long enough here to sour, then I just make pancakes or biscuits with it.
