Does homemade buttercream frosting need to be refridgerated?

I made buttercream frosting about 15 minutes ago and I am wondering if I have to put it in the fridge. I am making Chanukah cupcakes for my son's school for tomorrow and I don't have much room to store them in the fridge and will have to do some planning and throwing out if I need to put them in the fridge with the frosting.

  • If the house is warm, the frosting will melt and make a massive mess. Since the party is tomorrow, you'll be okay, but if it was any longer than that, you would definitely have to refrigerate them. I don't know where you live, but if it's cold outside, you could just stick them in your vehicle, and they'd be great.

  • I have no idea, but will you save me a cupcake?
