When does the doctor check for dialation?

I am going to be 34 weeks in a couple of days and I have an appointment today I forgot from last time when he first checked to see if I was dialated or efaced. Anyone remember?

  • Typically they start checking at 37 weeks, unless you're having contractions or something else going on before then.

  • usually around 36-37 weeks but some don't check till later or won't check until your in labor. Some will start earlier if contractions are presant. Just really depends.

  • Mine wont check unless you're having labor signs or you are in labor. I'm glad he doesn't...I don't need someone stuffing their hands in my woohoo unprovoked!

  • My doc always checked when he did the Strep test, so I think that's at 37 weeks?? He checked earlier with my daughter but only because I was having contractions.
