I hear both of these titles pretty evenly. Is there a difference between the two?

  • Islam is the title of the religion, a Muslim is what a person who follows Islam is called. Also, you would not call something "Islamic" you would call it Muslim. Example, "That is an Islamic tradition" is incorrect, you should say "That is a Muslim tradition."

  • My confusion mainly stems from these two terms. "The Nation of Islam" and "The Muslim Faith" That makes it sound like two seperate branches of the same religion. For example Catholic and Protestant. Both are Christian, but they are different in their ideals and faith.

  • They are the same thing. It definitely is confusing, though. The Nation of Islam is the same was The Nation where Muslims Live.... just like "The Muslim Faith" is the grammatically correct version instead of saying "The Islamic Faith"

  • Islam is the religion and those that follow it, are called Muslims.

The Nation of Islam is an organization started by a man who  used some teachings from Islam to start a movement.

  • The Nation of Islam is different then Islam. They are 2 different groups of people and mostly the followers of The Nation of Islam are black and are radical muslims and have many rallies etc. Islam is different because its the REAL Islam(religion), they follow the Quran and observe the correct holidays, prayers etc. The Nation is more of a made up religion by a human...Islam is not. As far as a Muslim and Islam, a Muslim follows Islam, like a Jew follows Judisim or a Christian follows Christ.

  • "The nation of Islam" has nothing to do with Islam. It was a political movement created here in America to unite black americans under "a relgious group" however they were and still are very diviated from the Religion of Islam sent by Allah to all of Mankind.

Answer by Anonymous at 5:52 PM on Dec. 22, 2008

  • The word islam means "surrender to Allah will" the word muslim means " one who submits" Thease are the defenition of the words meaning exactly. The nation of islam has nothing to do with real islam . Islam was sent for all nations , all colors .all languages. Muslims actually are very mixed religion. Muslims live in every country all over the world and is the fastest growing religion . In america alone 20,000 convert to islam every year and all are submitting themselfs to the will of Allah
