When you make bean soup and you put bacon in it do you have to cook the bacon before adding it to the soup?

how long do you cook it for? I am making it in the crockpot

  • I brown the bacon first, then add it to the beans. There will still be fat on the bacon, it seasons the beans well enough for me. :-)

  • Start with the bacon and use the fat to cook the vegetables soft. Transfer to the crockpot, add your beans and cover with water.

  • I didn't, but I have only made 1 pot before- which was last week... I just cooked it all in a crockpot all night long.

  • Cooked bacon is usually ideal when it is crispy. So for about 15 min to 30 min should get it crispy.

  • I start with raw bacon in the crock pot, pull it out before serving and stir in some pan fried bacon for texture and extra flavor.
