  • The average blood pressure is 120/80. Mine has always been normal at 110/70. Only when your body is shutting down would the number be lower. Borderline hypertension begins at 145/90.

Blood pressure is a measurement of the pressure of the blood traveling through your arteries as your heart pumps the blood. The higher the first number (systolic) number the more indicative that plaque is building up on the arterial walls, and blood is having a harder time passing--may lead to blocked arteries causing a heart attack or stroke. The second number (diastolic) indicates the amount of pressure on your arterial walls in between heart beats. As the number increases, the higher the chance for hypertension and related health problems.

The lower the numbers are (except in trauma situations), the healthier you are!
