  • What are you planning on giving her in place of the breast milk? Formula or cow milk? I'm not sure why you'd want to quit at 8 mos you only have 4 mos to go! But I might start mixing half and half with whatever your going to give her. Then keep giving less and less of breast milk each time until your not using it anymore. It might help her digest it better if you do it gradually.

  • May I ask why you wish to wean your child so soon? The AAP recommends breastfeeding for a minimum of one year and WHO and UNICEF recommend a minimum of two years of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is the single most important thing that you can do for your child and your child will continue to recieve essential nutrients from breastmilk even past the age of two!....

  • continued...

If you decide that you no longer wish to breastfeed I would hope that you would slowly cut back on breastfeeding over a 2 month time frame! DO NOT stop breatfeeding immediately. It is a gradual process and the longer your child breastfeeds the better of he/she will be.

Please consider breastfeeding longer. You have done a wonderful job of breastfeeding for 8 months and it saves you from sterilizing bottles..lugging formula/milk around all day long/ worrying about how clean your water is for formula ect... Breastfeeding is easy, and with a young baby...you're going to want to keep things simple for a while. Please continue to breastfeed!

  • You only have 4 months to go. Hang in there! You would have to wean your child onto formula, why would you do that? Only 4 months later you would have to wean again to milk. Why mess with baby's belly like that? Do what is best for baby and continue breastfeeding until at least a year.

  • I agree with the other posters. Your doing great, and youve made it so far!! Good job!!! But why stop now?? You only have a few more months in which you must provide either breastmilk or formula for your baby, so why not just stick it out?? It's very beneficial to both yourself and your baby, so keep up the good work!!!
