  • It is fine, alot of people do it! Will not hurt anything, you can also take them in and have them declawed, then you won't have to mess with filing every week.

  • perfectly safe and fine! :o) way better alternative if you disagree with declawing and way safer than those plastic covers you can glue to their claws.

  • Perfectly fine, just be careful you're not getting them too low. My mom actually bought these little things that go over their claws, it makes them soft. Ugh, I wish I knew what they were called, but that way when she scratches she doesn't tear anything, and they make her claws pretty colors, lol.

  • PLEASE DON'T GET HER DECLAWED! If she gets out she will have no way to defend herself, and she won't even be able to climb a tree to get away. Also it is NOT just pulling her fingernails out (bad enough) but they actually cut off the "fingers" to the first knuckle. How would you like to have your fingers amputated?
I think thoses claw covers are called Soft Paws or something like that, describe them to a clerk at a pet store, they'll know. The things have been on the markets for about 10 years now, they aren't brand new and unheard of.
Right now though, the filing doesn't hurt a thing, and if it keeps her from scratching stuff, do whatever works.

  • It won;t hurt the cat if she lets you do it, GREAT! I'm a licensed vet nurse

  • We trim our adult cat's nail with fingernail clippers. If she lets you file them, she would let you clip them. It would be much faster for you. We use our fingernail clippers but pet stores have special ones for cats. Just don't trim to much.
