My 5 year old never feels cold! Please help

My 5 year old daughter never feels cold - I see people wearing multiple layers, all bundled up and my daughter is just fine with a jacket...around her waist! I did some research on Google and WebMD but didn't find anything. Have you seen or heard something like this before?

  • My 5 yr old son never seems to feel cold. He will walk around our home in shorts and he is a heavy sweater even in the winter. I just figured he was a little odd.

  • There was actually a family on Extreme Home Makeover with a child that couldn't feel things that were hot I think...I can't remember what it was called though...

  • Micrespo: Have you ever asked a doctor about it?

She's not ill and she's not overweight. I suspected high or low thyroid but WebMD didn't list that as a symptom of either.

  • No. He's never been incredibly ill, other than ear infections and he hasn't even had one of those in a while, it doesn't seem to bother him and I still make sure he's dressed weather accordingly. He's not scheduled for another visit until next September, well child care, and I doubt that I will have to take him in any sooner. I started him on vitamins b/c someone told me that he could be slightly anemic and even if he's not he doesn't eat a lot of veggies so he can use them anyway.

  • Most children don't get as cold as adults because they are so much more active. I say don't worry as long as she has no other symptoms. My kids are always wearing less clothes than I do. I finally gave up making them put on jackets and such, unless it is exceptionally cold. They will usually come get a jacket if they trully get cold. Remember being out in the cold does not cause a person to get sick. This was just something our mothers use to tell us, but it is a myth!

  • My skinny 8 y/o is the same way. She insists on sleeping on the couch down stairs where it is cooler then upstairs or she is upstairs with a fan blowing on her face when it is 10 degrees outside.Other times when she doesn't have the fan blowing on her and all her covers are off, she feels really warm on the skin.
