Can you go swimming with shingles?

I have shingles & I'm wondering if I should wait till it's better or is it ok to go?

  • The only way a person can get chicken pox from shingles is if they come into direct contact with the sores. I would think that it would be ok as long as you were wearing a suit that covered it. However, I would also be checking with my doctor to make certain there is no way I would be exposing anyone through water transfer of the germ.

  • I would hope you wouldn't. You could spread the virus to others who haven't had chicken pox (same virus). Stay at home, rest up, in a few weeks you should be good to go

  • I don't know about the spread factor, but I wouldn't imagine that would be great for your skin right now with all the chlorine or the bacteria in the water if its not chlorinated. You could easily get an infection from the water.

  • I was told if you have a salt water pool and they were covered it would be ok..
