  • I guess if your child shows symptoms/ signs of autism, you should ask to have them tested. Jenny McCarthy (former playmate- in no means a doctor) has a book out about her own autistic son that I've heard is great. Google autistic tendencies.

  • Any child can have symptoms of autism. Please don't try to diagnose your son yourself. Autism and other disorders are diagnosed largely though observation. Doctors rely on parents and others who work closely with children to provide accurate descriptions of behaviors. If you go to the doctor convinced he is autistic and focused on "autistic like" behavior you may unknowingly sway his diagnosis.
I'm not saying you shouldn't be informed, do your research. Just try to be objective.

  • Speak to your child's doctor and ask them where the nearest regional center is and ask to be referred. they are the best resource for being diagnosed.
