What age did you start seeing a gynocologist? What age will you take your daughter/s?

My parents didn't take me in for my annual exams, ever, but I went once at around 17 for a yeast infection.

When I was 18 and got a job offering my own benefits, I started going regularly.

I have all girls, and I think I will take them in when their pediatrician recommends I start, and I will make sure they get their annual exams.

  • I went for the first time when I was 17.. because I was pregnant. I have only gone when I get pregnant.. (3 times)..
I don't go for regular checkups, although I should.
I don't know at this point when I will take my girls.. They are still so young & I don't think about this yet.

  • I was 16. I had my own insurance card and a car so I drove myself to get birth control and all of that. I took my dd when she told me she was sexually active. She was 16.

  • If there is no family history of medical problems related with the reproductive system then I would guess that it would make sense to start going to the gyn once the patient has become sexually active. JMO

  • I went for the first time when I was 27 - before I got married. If there aren't issues or you aren't sexually active I don't think there is a need until you are much older.

  • We don't have them here...but I had my first female exam at 17, my dad thought I had appendecitis but it was an ovarian cyst. After that, all my genecological exams have coincided with getting pregnant or having a baby/post-partum checks. I'll make sure my girls get checked when there's reason to, or when our doc says it's time.

  • I started going on my own at 18. My mom never mentioned it and probably had her head in the sand about me growing up and maturing.

I will take DD probably around 14, or earlier if her ped. recommends it. I have PCOS and want to make sure that she has the best start with her reproductive health possible.

  • I was pregnant at 16, so then. My oldest daughter is almost 12 and started her period a year and a half ago but I don't think I'll take her until something comes up or she becomes sexually active. Or, of course, if she gets uncomfortable because her current pediatrician is a man.
