best juice

My 4 month old DS is severly constipated the doc told me to give him baby juice with his cereal instead of breast milk. He is still horribly constipated though. He screams and there is actually a little blood in his stools. So the docter told me to start giving him 2oz of juice 2 times a day, MY question is what is the best juice to help with this, Ive tryed prune but he just will not drink it, is there anything else?

  • Prune will make him go for sure! I usually give my children Juicy Juice White Grape Juice. They say that white grape juice is easiest for Babies to digest in there new systems. Do you feed your baby food yet? Try feeding him prune baby food. That always worked for my babies! Good Luck!

  • Why are you giving your baby cereal? I didn't start my breast feeding baby on solids until 11 months old.
Anyway, maybe if you lay off of the food, the poops will be softer.

  • i would use apple juice, my doctor said that sugar helps move bowels, so probably any juice would work good

  • My babies would get diaper rash from Apple juice too much acid. Maybe try making your babies food not so thick, a bit runny. I still make it that way for my 8 month old. I mix white grape and half water and mix that with cerial for my baby about once a day. Good Luck!

  • APPLE!My son was 3 months old and having horrible issues,he refused prune but apple worked.Honestly Id never want to discourage you from BF (and this is just from my expierance only-as I know others have different opinions)but my lil one was gaining little weight so my dr suggested supplimenting and his stools have really improved.

  • Also baby oatmeal is less constipating than rice.

  • I would back off the solids personally. breastmilk is a natural laxative, and can be their only food for the first 12 months. I didn't begin solids till 6 months, and consti[ation wasn't much of a problem. If baby is getting consti[ated, then babys body probably isn't ready.
