  • First you need to decide if you want to be an Interior DECORATOR or DESIGNER. To be a DESIGNER requires a 4 year degree in Interior Design--you would actually learn how to create new and remodel existing structures. You would likely serve as a lead foreman for remodels...think architect! To be a DECORATOR, may be helpful to take a few decorating courses--like faux painting, texturing, tiling, coordinating fabrics, and other finishing touches, and would maybe require a few courses, or simply having a creative or unique "knack" or eye for decorating. Decorators make up the bulk of HGTV shows, but some probably have degrees in design or architecture.

  • There is an interior design degree offered at our community college. Colleges and Universities, Art Institutes and technical schools offer degress. Google it and take it from there.

  •  I think you fist and foremost need some experience and practice, and then the more education you receive the better. I suppose it would not hurt to participate in some contests as well. The more experience and education you receive the better. You should also keep up with current design trends by reading in magazines and so forth.
