Embarrassed by your kids clothes?

My 6 year twins now have an opinion (yikes) about their clothes. I let them pick their own outfits. Although it cute what they come up with, I can't help but wonder what others are thinking.
Anybody else feel this way?

  • OMG YES! LOL they looked so goofy yesterday. But I figure its not hurting anyone and they like to have that control so its not embarassing, but I do wonder what they are thinking :)

  • I used to be so concerned about that, but I once attended a field trip with my little girls school, and realized that I was not the only one doing it. Besides, I would rather build my little ones self confidence then have them look perfect all the time.

... But yes, when I am with them I always stess to others that I did not pick out their clothes, they did!!

  • My mother always let me dress myself and do my own hair as a young child. We have pictures of me looking pretty....interesting. But it was fun for me and improved my confidence. I also learned my personal style independence and how to take care of myself earlier. Why does it matter what others think. They can worry about their own business, right?

  • I never let my kids pick their cloths unless we are staying home for the day.... and my daughter usually just wants to wear dress up cloths and my boys wanna run naked!! but if we are going somewhere i ALWAYS pick out what they are wearing!!

  • DD is only 9 months old, so she's not really old enough to pick her own clothes. However, DH has dressed her before and she doesn't always match when he does. I try not to change her after he's dressed her unless she needs it, either because of a well-timed diaper explosion or because she's not dressed for the weather. Otherwise, if he did it, it stays that way... and I tell everyone how nice it is that DH dressed her for me!

  • I give my daughter "options" rather than letting her go in and pick out her own...she is only three though. I'll let her pick out a pair of pants on her own...and then I will pick out a couple shirts for her to pick from. I worked in a mental health facility where choices were a REALLY big deal to my patients so I think I carried this over with my daughter. My SO always says "Blythe gets choices that don't matter"...yep...I let her pick what blanket she wants at night or what flavor yogurt she wants for breakfast...stupid little things that truly don't matter. What SO doesn't know is he gets offered choices that don't matter too! lol

  • For the most part, I let DD (6) choose her clothes. If she comes out wearing something that just doesn't work AT ALL, I tell her why it doesn't go together, and make some suggestions on how she can change it.

  • I used to embarrass my parents with how odd I dressed. So when my 4 year old dresses herself in cammo tights, patchwork jumper, and mulitcolored sweater... I think it rocks =) It'll take a lot for her to embarrass me =)

  • My youngest would leave the house in nothing but a pull-up and cowboy boots if I let him decide what to I offer him choices.

  • OMG you must have seen my dd! LOL She dresses in some very interesting out fits. My dd never matches. She dresses for comfort. I pick out her school clothes, any other time it's her choice. My son is always naked and has a pair of crocs on. If I let him pick out fits, it would only be a pair of crocs! I'm not embarassed by there clothes! My saying is as long as it's clean, it's a go!
