I'm breastfeeding, I am starting cereal tomorrow. Do I let him go the full time on the first breast, then cereal and then offer the other breast?

My first didn't latch correctly so I pumped and gave him a bottle. However breastfeeding is working this time so I am not sure what to about solids!

  • I did cereal first so he'd be hungry. I also mixed it with some breast milk so it would taste more familiar.

  • I agree. I did cereal first and mixed it with BM. I would also suggest feeding her before she starts fussing to nurse. That way she doesn't need calming down first.

  • If your son is STARVING, offer him a little BM first... otherwise he might be pissed that you're trying to give him cereal. If he's not super hungry, go ahead and offer the cereal first.

  • You should always offer breast milk first. Thats how you know when to start solids. When baby is still hungry after nursing feed him solids. Breast milk has more nutrients that baby needs compared to soilid foods.
