perfect excersis and diet, and still gaining weight

iv been dieting and doing at least4 hours worth of excersis a week, for the last four months and seem to be gaining weight (and clothing sizes so im guessing its not muscle). Iv been keeping a detailed food journal so i know im not taking more then 1300 - 1500 calories a day and with 30 - 45 minute cardio workouts everyday., i should be losing like mad. Whats going wrong?

  • Hmmmm, keep you calories closer to 1500 so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and store everything up. Kick up your cardio workouts and throw some weight training in there too. Make sure you are getting enough protein too. You should have one gram of protein for every pound that you weigh.

  • Weight training is definately one of the best ways to speed up your metabolism along with cardio. Make sure that you find out what your target heart rate is and stay within that range when you do cardio... you will lose more weight that way because if you work too hard then you are actually burning muscle instead of fat and that won't help you lose weight.

  • I agree with the other answers for the most part, except for the protein part. One gram per pound is a little excessive unless you are a body builder or SERIOUSLY into heavy weight training. 4 hours a week doesn't seem like enough...go for 30-60 minutes of cardio 5-6 times a week, 60 minutes being ideal. Do your weight/resistance training before your cardio so that you don't wear your muscles out. To lose weight your cardio should also get you into your target heart rate and be at a level that is challenging and just slightly uncomfortable (so you know you're pushing yourself and working hard).   • Do you have poly cystic ovarian disease? I have it and found out that it was the reason why I was gaining and not losing even though I was dieting and exercising.
