Do Christians believe that children should honor

parents who were abusive? Does honor thy father and mother have a clause in the Bible? As in if your parents were terrible people, they do not need to be honored at all and if so, where is it in the Bible?

  • I find it hard to fathom that God forgives those that abuse innocent children, but, hey, if it works for you- great.

  • They can "honor" their parents in the sense that they thank God their parents gave them life, but they do not have to have anything to do with the abusive parent(s). They probably shouldn't talk against the parents to people who have no reason to know, but that goes in any social setting anyway.

  • Honor them unconditionally . Just as God forgives , we should too.

  • God asks us to forgive just as he forgives us. And God will forgive us.

But forgiveness doesn't mean you have to be buddybuddy with someone.

Search your soul, find a way to forgive them. It will be good for YOU.

As far as honoring them goes...You can be thankful that you were given life and you can forgive them. Think about it, from a human standpoint forgiveness is more than they would deserve. And any person should feel honored for having something they don't deserve.

Anyways...Do whats right for you. They'll answer for what they've done one day.

  • I believe you should honor those that are honorable. Obviously, those that abuse their children are not honorable. Love their God-soul, yes. But honor them, I wouldn't.

  • For those that believe the bible in its entirety, we should obey and trust that GOd will take care of the rest. Jesus loves children, and I believe that God will defend those who cannot defend themselves even from their parents. But we have to find ourselves being obedient as well.

  • i think that you still have to honor your parents remember that we chose are parents before we came to earth of course your parents get changed by the world around them so yes they can become abusive or do other things not of god, but we should still honor them as our parents. we have to remember that are parents sin just as we do and that we can not forget that they make mistakes also.
