When do you give your baby a sippy cup?

At what age do you think a baby should start drinking liquids other than BM or F. When are they old enough to use a sippy cup?

  • Lliquids other than breastmilk or formula: For the most part, one year. Juice is sugar water and with water itslef, it's too easy to give too much which can lead to water intoxication.

Sippy cup? Whenever you like. You can feed an infant with one from birth; just takes lots of patience. Yours is plenty old enough at four months, just don't expect much by way of control yet.

  • My kids were drinking juice by a couple months. I don't know why other moms keep saying not to do it. My kids are fine. My kids stopped using the bottle before they were a yr and were using the sippy cup till about 2.

  • If you feed any liquids other than breastmilk, do so from a sippy cup. This way you won't ever have to worry about weaning them from a bottle--'cause yummy things are in sippy cups!

  • My daughter actually started with a sippy cup filled with breast milk at 5 months. She absolutely refused to try a bottle, and I was going back to work, so I needed some way for the ladies taking care of her to feed her, since I wouldn't be available every 3-4 hours to feed her. For whatever reason, she took to the soft spout sippy cups easily and quickly. As far as introducing things other than breast milk in the sippy, I think I started giving her very watered down juice or just straight water when she was around 6 or 7 months old.

  • I tried my son with a soft spout sippy cup at six months and he took to it so well I took him off the bottle. They can have water at any age really you just have to make sure it's pre-boiled and cooled off. I don't like giving my little guy juice very often but I will give him pear juice once in awhile.
